Every ruling, dated. Nobody can backdate it, including us.

Each day we fingerprint every ruling we hold into one code and publish it here, and the Internet Archive keeps its own dated copy of this page. Later, any single ruling can be proven to have existed on that date, without revealing anyone else’s.

1. Every ruling becomes a codeEach ruling (the listing, the date, the standards version, the verdict and a fingerprint of its findings file) is turned into a SHA-256 hash.
2. All the codes become oneThe day’s hashes are combined in a Merkle tree into a single root, published below.
3. An outsider dates itThe Internet Archive snapshots this page. Its date is not ours to change, so neither is the root.

Checking a ruling. When a brand, a platform or a buyer needs proof that we ruled a page on a date, we give them that one ruling and the chain of hashes that leads from it to the day’s root. Anyone can recompute the chain with a standard SHA-256 tool and compare it with the root the Archive holds. Nothing else in the record is revealed.
